As our daydream continues, Bong Soon rushes to Min Hyuk’s house and begs him to help her find Kyung Shim. Min Hyuk does his best to console Bong Soon but her helplessness in spite of her great strength has almost paralyzed her. Back at the police station Gook Du retraces the case with the lead investigator. Now that the police are aware that their every move was being watched and every word listened to by the Creeper, they should be able to take a different approach in apprehending him. Min Hyuk also retraces what he knows about the Creeper. He promises Bong Soon that he will work on finding answers while Bong Soon gets some sleep at home. He gives her a necklace with a small golden key attached to it. He tells her that it will protect her.
The next day, all of the detectives are briefed about the Creeper case. Their particular focus is the junkyard and its employees. The older man at the junkyard is Jang Kwang Seok. He lives with his mother and has no criminal record. Kim Jang Hyun, however, cannot say the same. When he was fifteen, he killed a person as a result of arson and was confined to a juvenile detention center. He was also not allowed to serve in the military due to a history of mental illness. Each detective takes a different task in an effort to tear down Jang Hyun’s web of lies. Gook Du’s instincts direct him back to the junkyard. Bong Soon wakes with the same disquiet from the day before. She stares at her phone, terrified by what she might find. With shaking hands, she picks up her phone and replays the video from the day before. She listens carefully as Kyung Shim begs her not to come looking for her. In the background, she hears something familiar. The sound of a barking dog overlaps Kyung Shim’s desperate plea. Bong Soon remembers hearing a dog at the junkyard. She plays the video over and over again, listening only to the sound. She bolts from her room once she is sure that her suspicions are correct. At Ainsoft headquarters, Min Hyuk searches for clues. At the temple, we find out that Boss Tak has secretly been writing and publishing his own poetry for three years. We also learn that the spiritual monk has a worldly shopping list that includes several hair products. I guess vanity is not one of the Buddha seven deadly sins.
At the junkyard, Bong Soon arrives and begins to ask questions. When she gets no answers, she begins to throw cars around in a desperate attempt to locate Kyung Shim. The Creeper watches her in confusion and rapt fascination as she tears the junkyard apart. The door to a storage container swings open in the commotion and Bong Soon moves closer to investigate. Her junkyard rampage ensures that she misses her presentation at Ainsoft.
Min Hyuk has requested a reschedule on Bong Soon’s presentation as he resumes searching for clues. His computer system finally yields information about the junkyard. Schematics reveal a hidden chamber beneath the junkyard. Min Hyuk tries to call Bong Soon but her phone goes straight to voicemail. When he tracks her current location he finds that she is already at the junkyard. As Min Hyuk races towards the junkyard, Bong Soon descends into the chamber beneath the storage container. When she finally reaches the bottom of the stairs, she finds three women locked in jail cells. She quickly tears each cell door off of its hinges and rips the chains that bind the women to their beds. Little does she know that the Creeper has removed Kyung Shim from the chamber and ordered his accomplice to blow everything up. The Creeper’s toadie splashes gasoline everywhere and prepares to set it on fire.
Mr. Toadie’s lighter doesn’t work on the first try but on the second, sparks fly and the gasoline ignites, sending fire in all directions. A propane tank explodes, sending fire and fumes into the storage container and down the stairs, showering Bong Soon and the huddled women in fire and debris. For a moment, it looks as if all is lost but Bong Soon manages to guide the girls out of the inferno and into blessed daylight and freedom. Bong Soon confronts the toadie, who can only grin like an idiot. She begs him to tell her where the Creeper has taken Kyung Shim but he refuses to answer. Mr. Toadie turns to run but is stopped short by Gook Du, who slams him into the side of a car and proceeds to handcuff him while reading him his Miranda rights. Min Hyuk arrives just in time to find Bong Soon leaving the scene with her hood pulled up to conceal her face. He is happy to find her alive and unharmed but he is disappointed that she did not wait for him to help her. Her preemptive actions might cost Kyung Shim her life.
In the underground house of horrors, a full-scale investigation is underway. Gook Du finds the Creepers “media room” and rushes to bring the other detectives to the room that might produce the most information. Inside the room, among the mannequins and multiple monitors, Gook Du finds a portion of the wall arranged with photos of the victims. Bong Soon’s photo is among them. Gook Du is sickened by what he finds.
The next day, reports of the dramatic rescue are all over the news. Everyone is relieved that three of the four women have been found safe and alive but the news that the Creeper is still on the loose dampens the moment of joy. Gook Du meets with Bong Soon at Ainsoft and she shares the video of a kidnapped Kyung Shim with him. He is angry that she did not share the video with him sooner but his anger is calmed when he hears her reasons for the delay. The Creeper has promised that if Bong Soon goes to the police, he will kill Kyung Shim. Bong Soon begs Gook Du to keep her involvement a secret. Good Du promises that he will just as Min Hyuk finds them in the company cafeteria. Gook Du excuses himself and Min Hyuk practically drags Bong Soon to the company library in a temporary fit of jealousy. In the library, Min Hyuk tries to establish what his relationship means to Bong Soon. When she refuses to put a label on it, he blurts out that he is crazy in love with her. He acknowledges that now is not the best time to be having the conversation but the idea of Bong Soon running to face the Creeper alone is driving him mad. She breaks away from him, knowing that the closer he is to her, the closer he is to danger.
At police headquarters, in a private interrogation room, Gook Du talks with his lead investigator. Good Du lets him know that all of the wild stories about the girl with the super human strength are true. He pleads with Detective Yook not to share what he knows because Bong Soon wants to live a normal life. He also divulges that the Creeper has threatened to kill Kyung Shim if Bong Soon alerts the police. In the neighborhood, Bong Soon’s mother runs into her husband and Gook Du’s mother walking together and chatting happily. Her eyes grow wide and she demands to know why they are together. Gook Du’s mother explains that they are on their way to volunteer at a local festival. Bong Soon’s mother does not accept the explanation well and begins to pummel her husband with her umbrella. Back at the police station, a group of news photographers arrives to take photos of the investigation team and a bragging police captain. When he calls Detective Yook forward for a posed photo, Detective Yook takes exception to the unwarranted attention. He boldly asks the photographers if the Creeper has been caught yet. He tells them to stop taking photos since there is nothing to brag about. The photographers dejectedly lower their cameras.
At the hospital, Gook Du speaks with one of the victims. He asks her if she can recall anything about her kidnapper or her confinement. She is listless and speaks barely above a whisper. Gook Du almost feels as if he won’t be able to get any information from her. He turns to go but she stops him with her words. She remembers hearing a music box every time he would come down from his media room. In another hospital room, the detectives are asked by the victim if they know the woman who saved them. She questions if it was a dream.
In Min Hyuk’s office, he shouts at Secretary Gong for not booking reporters to cover the new game rollout. Secretary Gong apologizes and Min Hyuk dismisses him but not before he asks him to find out where Bong Soon is. As Secretary Gong leaves, Min Hyuk slumps in his chair feeling the weight of his bad behavior towards Secretary Gong and the real reason that he is in such a cranky mood. Secretary Gong finds Bong Soon in the break room. He carefully greets her and then asks why she missed the presentation the day before. She apologizes but offers no explanation. He puts two and two together and then asks if she and Min Hyuk had a fight. When she doesn’t answer again he excuses himself and reports to Min Hyuk. Min Hyuk goes to the break room and tries to convince Bong Soon to eat. She reasons that she cannot eat while she knows that her friend is being starved. She is not wrong. Min Hyuk insists that she must eat in order to be strong enough to save her friend. Then he adds that if Bong Soon won’t eat, then he won’t eat either. In spite of his best efforts, he cannot convince her. He goes to the lunchroom alone but he too is unable to eat. He wonders to himself if he can get some spicy chicken feet. He pulls up the YoGiYo app on his phone and finds some spicy chicken feet nearby. He orders a delivery. You evil precious man!!
Detective Yook interrogates Mr. Toadie but doesn’t get any answers from the strange man. He twitches and laughs and tells the detective that the police will never find the Creeper. Gook Du and another detective watch the interview hidden behind the one-way glass. At the temple, two of Boss Tak’s men hobble their way up the long staircase. They find Boss Tak in deep meditation. He tells his boys that life is transient and that money, status, and power are meaningless. Just then one of his boys receives a phone call to inform the boss that the redevelopment has been approved. Boss Tak jumps to his feet and bounds from the temple as the new real estate deal will provide them a hefty profit. So much for nothingness, right?
Bong Soon sits at her desk staring into space. Her phone rings. On the other end is the Creeper. She asks him to release her friend. She wants to make this personal between them and request to meet with him. He laughs and asks her if she will marry him instead of her friend. She answers immediately and tells him basically, anytime, anywhere. The Creeper says that he will text her the information about the meeting place and then hangs up. Later, Min Hyuk arrives with the to go order of spicy chicken feet only to find Bong Soon’s desk empty. He leaves the chicken feet on her desk.
At home, Bong Soon waits for the text message that will lead her to Kyung Shim and the Creeper. It finally arrives and instructs her to go to a construction site. Both Gook Du and Min Hyuk wait to hear from Bong Soon. When Min Hyuk sees that Bong Soon’s phone has left her house, he calls Gook Du and tells him that Bong Soon is in trouble. The two men race to find her.
Meanwhile, Bong Soon has found the construction site and a screaming Kyung Shim bound to the base of a construction elevator with the cage descending on top of her, the Creeper inside the cage. Bong Soon runs to her friend and ducks under the cage in time to catch it and stop its inexorable plunge. She tears the cage from its supports and flings it across the construction site where is crumbles on impact, throwing the Creeper to the ground in a bloodied and unconscious pile. Bong Soon unties Kyung Shim and removes her gag. Kyung Shim quickly tells Bong Soon that the man in the cage is not the real Creeper. Bong Soon runs to the man’s side and peels the mask from his face to find his mouth taped and his head bruised and bloodied. She hears Kyung Shim scream and looks to find her in the Creepers clutches once again. Bong Soon moves to attack but she cannot seem to rise from the ground. She suddenly realizes what has happened. She has harmed an innocent and her power has fled. The Creeper punches Kyung Shim to silence her screams and then he strides forward towards Bong Soon.
The Creeper pulls her from the ground and is surprised to find that is trick actually worked. He is a bit disappointed as he even prepared a gun for the occasion. He begins to drag Bong Soon by her collar and she is only able to struggle. Suddenly, Min Hyuk arrives and he begins to fight the Creeper. The two men tussle but the Creeper eventually realizes that Min Hyuk is the more skilled fighter and so he runs away. The Creeper jumps into his waiting car but finds himself confronted by Gook Du and his service revolver. The Creeper guns the engine and Gook Du fires his weapon. Min Hyuk cradles Bong Soon in his arms as shots ring out.
I’m glad we finally get to save the long-suffering “brides”. Those poor girls need a hamburger real bad! I’m also happy that Bong Soon was the one to save them but her eagerness to find her friend has ended up costing her far more than a few missed meals. But that’s the whole point I guess. If drama is meant to teach us anything, this would be one of the lessons…..don’t run off half-cocked without first sharing what you know with friends.
I do have to say that both Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Shik are luminous. Both are lovely to look at and sometimes it’s almost too much to take in. The both have the wonderful ability to speak with their eyes, a talent that not all actors possess. The writing has really allowed them to utilize this talent on a pretty regular basis. I have yet to be bored watching either one of them. Ji Soo is doing well but Gook Du is not written with just a whole lot of range. He’s a hot-headed cop and that’s pretty much it. I am not forgetting his amazing turn in drag, nor am I forgetting his playful drunk seduction techniques. I’m merely saying that his character isn’t written to “stretch” very much when it comes to emotions. Still, the drama isn’t over yet and perhaps the writers will give him good cause to unpack his toolbox and show us what he’s got. I know I’d love to see it.
As the drama begins the ascent to the climax, I’m wondering if the little side stories will have much meaning in the grand scheme of things. Will Bong Soon’s mother divorce her father, leaving him free to hook up with or marry Gook Du’s mother? That would effectively make Gook Du her step brother. And will we find out that Bong Soon’s mother has had her powers back all along just like her Granny? What about Boss Tak and his development? What about Bong Soon’s boys and Boss Tak’s gang? Will they join forces for good? The last three episodes will hopefully answer all these questions. To the finish then??
