As our daydream continues, Soo Jin is stuck translating for some Lotte customers. She’s happy to do the job but can’t believe that her boss volunteered her to translate when she really doesn’t speak the language. Her foreign customers ask her a question and to her own surprise, fluent Chinese begins to pour out of her mouth. She even wiggles her tongue in disbelief.
After work, she walks down the street still marveling at her sudden ability to speak perfect Chinese. She also wonders who she will meet next. Suddenly she is face to face with Kai, the face of the wildly popular group EXO. He complains that it is hard to get a date with her since she didn’t answer her phone earlier. He wonders aloud when Soo Jin will stop considering him a student to her tutor. She’s been through the “who are you now” game and so she picks up her role quite easily. In keeping with Korean drama tradition, Kai quickly grabs her hand and leads her away.
They go on an adorable shopping date. They look at toys, try on sunglasses and smell candles and they look adorable doing it. They emerge from a store to find themselves caught in a sudden cloudburst. Neither one of them has an umbrella. While Soo Jin wonders how they will get from point A to point B without dissolving (because I am certain they are both made of sugar) Kai takes off his jean jacket and swings it over both of their heads. Soo Jin looks adoringly at him as they run in slow motion across the courtyard in the rain.
They make their way to a burger joint and Kai returns to the table with a giant burger. He takes a bite of this monstrosity between two buns as Soo Jin thinks to herself that Kai looks like a prince even when he’s eating a burger. He asks her how to say hamburger in Chinese. She thinks that since she is his tutor it is unlikely that they will kiss anytime soon. She is excited about that prospect because it means that they will get to spend more time together. He quickly burst her bubble by telling her they won’t be able to spend very much time together because of his concert schedule. He also tells her that they have known one another since high school. He tells her he doesn’t want to call her teacher anymore and he doesn’t care about their age difference. She insists that their relationship remains that of teacher and student.
Later that evening, they are walking through the park when they come upon a group of dancers. A crowd has gathered to watch the spectacle and Soo Jin and Kai join them. They watch the dancers with wonder for a bit and then Kai suggests that they should join them. She protests that she is a terrible dancer but Kai takes her by her hands and leads her to the area where they other dancers are. They engage in a slow-motion dance that is cute but often awkward. As goofy as the scene is, it has a sweet charm to it and Soo Jin wishes that it would never end.
But end it does as Kai backs up and bows to Soo Jin with a flourish. He then does something very strange for a guy who’s trying to impress his teacher crush…. he pirouettes back to Soo Jin and restates his desire to stop calling her “teacher”. As a means to show his sincerity, he suddenly slips a couple ring on her left ring finger. He tells her that she can say no to him but that if she does he won’t see her anymore, even as a student. She tries to delay him, knowing that if they lean in for a kiss he will disappear. He asks if she is rejecting him and she emphatically says that she is not rejecting him. She asks if they can talk about the topic of their relationship status another time as she keeps her hand in front of her lips. He says he can’t wait any longer since he’s already waited so very long in the first place. He leans in to kiss her and then disappears into a puff of purple smoke.
Soo Jin tries her best to wave the purple smoke away from her face. She looks at the counter and sees that Kai’s picture has joined the others on the cards in front of her. She picks up the card and presses it to her chest. She had really wanted to hang around with him longer. Her wicked step-sister/co-workers arrive with apologies. They are late for her shift and they are happy to shuffle Soo Jin off the floor and to her waiting boyfriend. BOYFRIEND?!?!
Soo Jin changes her clothes and leaves for work to meet up with her next mystery boyfriend. She alights from the escalator when someone grabs her elbow. She looks up to find the smiling face of 2PM’s main rapper Ok Taecyeon. Her face illuminates with delight. He smiles at her and engages his lady-killing dimples.
Of all the angel dates so far, Kai seems to be the one who fits her best. They are cute and quirky and she seems the most comfortable with him. Will he be the one she chooses or will there be some average guy who will materialize out of nowhere to knock all of these lovely princes off of their lofty pedestals? Who do you think she will choose? Who would you choose and why?
